Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for Tuberculosis Patients – Performance Challenges observed by the Providers and Patients

Introduction: Government of India launched an Aadhar-linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme from 1st April, 2018. Under this scheme, all notified TB patients would receive Rs 500 per month (~US$7) throughout the course their treatment for nutritional support. Aim and Objectives: To determine challenges faced by health providers in implementation scheme. Methods: This was a mixed method cross-sectional study conducted on public private during year 2019 under RNTCP (now NTEP) district Amritsar, Punjab. Quantitative data about availability validation bank accounts obtained Nikshay portal after having permission District Officer. Qualitative focus group discussion in-depth interviews with involved staff members (17) (20) registered Tuberculin units Amritsar. Results: From reports, it observed that there significant difference between sector rural urban areas. Focus done Health Visitor (TBHV) Senior supervisors (STS) asked hurdles they faced. Items were identified tabulated. In-depth 20 patients, 10 each respectively. Data collected transcribed arranged as themes or questions then information recorded those sub-headings. Conclusion: The major lack support sector, awareness among people, technical issues more work burden. Patients mostly mentioned confidentiality issues, awareness, social stigma disease, less amount long complex process.
